What is the purpose of the Georgia
Jail Association?
The Association
was formed in the Summer of 1987. The organization's main objective is to provide a distinct and unified voice for jail
officers working in local detention centers. GJA's membership is comprised of Jail Administrators, Jail Officers, Sheriffs,
Support Staff, and other interested parties of the jail profession in Georgia. GJA strives to accomplish the following
goals:
1.
To bring together those concerned with, or interested in the professional operation and administration of jails in the State
of Georgia;
2.
To advance professionalism through training, exchange of information, technical assistance, publications and conferences;
3. To provide leadership in the development of professional standards, management practices, programs, and services;
and
4. To advance the interests, needs, and concerns of the membership.
Why should I join? What are the
benefits?
GJA offers numerous benefits to its members. The member is offered bi-annual training with the latest national,
state, and local jail / corrections information. They are offered regional training and development seminars as well as State
Legislative updates and input. GJA gives its members an opportunity to share ideas and network with other corrections professionals.
GJA also produces a newsletter, The Informer, covering important developments in the jail industry.
What does it cost?
Membership is $15.00
per person per year.
How
do I join?
Professional membership,
a voting member, includes law enforcement personnel working with or in support of a jail and who are employed by and work
under the supervision of a Sheriff. Membership is $15.00 per year. GJA membership correspondence should be sent to:

What should I expect to see or gain from attending GJA Conferences?
GJA's Training
Conferences, now held twice a year, focuse on professional training for its members. Topics covered
during the conferences are Georgia Jail Standards Updates, Georgia Criminal Justice Updates, Legal Issues
for Jails, Georgia Legislative Updates, Jail Security Issues, and much more. Participants receive a certificate
of completion of the training program, as well as POST credit. GJA is committed to providing the latest
and most up to date information available.
